Draw ceremony of FIFA U-17 Women`s World Cup Azerbaijan held
Baku, July 7 (AZERTAC). A draw ceremony of the FIFA U-17 Women`s World Cup Azerbaijan 2012 took place in the International Mugham Center here on Friday.
A video on Azerbaijan was demonstrated in the ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the FIFA U-17 Women`s World Cup Azerbaijan 2012 Elkhan Mammadov said that the mundial, which will be held under the slogan “eleven hearts, one goal” will bring together the world`s 16 best national teams.
Expressing gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his care and attention to the development of sport in the country, Elkhan Mammadov noted that the World Cup will be organized perfectly.
Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the FIFA U-17 Women`s World Cup Azerbaijan 2012 Hany Abo Rida also praised President Ilham Aliyev`s care and also works done to the effect.
Musical entertainment was performed at the Draw ceremony by Sevda Alakbarzade, a well-known Jazz singer from Azerbaijan and the country`s representative in Eurovision 2010 Safura Alizade. Sevda Alakbarzade`s performance had elements of Mugham - traditional Azerbaijani music - added by eleven year old Mirpasha Shukurov.
The teams were drawn into the following groups:
Group A: Azerbaijan, Colombia, Nigeria, Canada
Group B: France, USA, Korea DPR, Gambia
Group C: Mexico, New Zealand, Brazil, Japan
Group D: Uruguay, China PR, Ghana, Germany
The tournament will take place between 22 September and 13 October in Baku and Lankaran. The top two finishers from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
