EANA REPRESENTATIVES MEET AZERBAIJANI DEPUTY PM
Representatives of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) including Secretary General Eric Nylen and member of the Bureau, president of the Hungarian News Agency (MTI) Matyas Vince met Tuesday with Azerbaijan`s deputy prime minister Elchin Efendiyev on the second day of their visit to the country.
Efendiyev said the country`s state telegraph agency, AZERTAC, played an important role in bringing Azerbaijan`s realities to the world when - in the first years of its independence - the country was living in a state of information blockade.
He said nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev had always paid special attention to developing mass media, including strengthening financial and technical support for AZERTAC, improving the skills of its staff and enhancing the agency`s relations with foreign counterparts.
Elchin Efendiyev said AZERTAC has close cooperative relations with a number of well-known European news agencies, and added that, from this point of view, the agency`s affiliation with the EANA would be very effective for the whole mass media in the country.
The deputy premier said Azerbaijan, which combines rich traditions of East and West, is today rapidly integrating into Europe.
Elchin Efendiyev said Azerbaijan is the place where first opera, first theater and first conservatoire were created in the Muslim East.
Matyas Vince, in his turn, praised Azerbaijan`s policy towards integrating into Europe.
Mr. Vince and Mr. Nylen said they will report to the EANA General Assembly on AZERTAC`s activity as well as on what Azerbaijan has been doing to protect the freedoms of speech, expression and press.
Elchin Efendiyev presented Matyas Vince with Hungarian version of his “Silver van” book which was published in Budapest.
Officials at the Azerbaijan Cabinet of Ministers Ismayil Sadigov and Mubariz Safarov as well as Director General of AZERTAC Aslan Aslanov were present at the meeting.
