ECMI delegation visits Azerbaijan Press Council
Baku, January 31 (AZERTAC). A delegation of the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI) visited the Press Council of Azerbaijan.
Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov highlighted the activity and goals f the Council.
Amashov noted that “there are no any registered facts of discrimination towards anybody in the country’s media outlets”.
He said representatives of different nationalities and ethnic minorities live in Azerbaijan in peace and have the right to found independent media bodies.
ECMI Senior Research Associate Dr. Zora Popova spoke of the Organization’s activity and its international links.
ECMI conducts practice and policy-oriented research, provides information and documentation, and offers advisory services concerning minority-majority relations in Europe. It serves European governments and regional intergovernmental organizations as well as non-dominant groups throughout. The Centre co-operates with the academic community, the media and the general public through the timely provision of information and analysis.
ECMI closely cooperates with the OCSE, the European Union and the Council of Europe. It specialized in conflict resolution, conducting trainings and carrying out researches in this field.
