Egypt to launch first space agency of African nation

Egypt is set to officially inaugurate the first space agency of African nation during the New Space Africa 2025 conference, according to MENA.
The initiative, held under the patronage of Egypt’s Prime Minister, aims to strengthen Africa’s space economy through innovation and collaboration.
Africa currently hosts 22 space institutions, with total investments estimated at US$7.7 billion, representing just 1 per cent of the global space sector. Of the 13,300 satellites in orbit today, only 61 belong to African nations, with Egypt owning 13. The choice of New Cairo as the agency's location is strategic, as it sits 344 metres above sea level, enhancing research and space observation capabilities.
The project will serve as an international platform uniting industry leaders, space agencies, investors, and policymakers to foster collaboration and develop innovative solutions for the challenges and opportunities in Africa’s space sector. The event will mark the official launch of the space agency, with Egypt playing a pivotal role in providing expertise and support for the continent’s space development.
