England`s 2000th international goal - Gareth Barry
Baku, November 16 (AZERTAC). As England`s 2000th international goal- a Gareth Barry header, turned in by Daniel Majstorovic - gave them victory over Sweden, Capello expressed his delight at some individual performances, including Jack Rodwell, Phil Jones and Theo Walcott.
During these games, I`m looking for something new - and I found it," said Capello.
“I found three really interesting players. These three players are really good technically, really good physically, and all three are fast. That is important in modern football. “For me, it was more important to see Jones, Walcott, Rodwell, to play against a team which is really organized on the pitch and difficult to play against.
“The answer that I received from the performance is really important for me. These three players played really well.”
It also meant Capello finished 2011 unbeaten in the calendar year and he claimed England have shed their “fear factor” from playing at Wembley.
Capello added: “I think the competition to play for the Euros will be strong. I hope it will be strong for all the players. “We`re unbeaten in 2011, but those are just statistics. It will be important what we do in the Euros, not what we`ve done in this year. “It was good we played with less fear. We started the first 15 minutes against Spain and today we played without fear.”
Barry`s 22nd minute header, deflected off Majstorovic, was enough to give England their first win over Sweden in 43 years.
Manchester City star Barry said: “I`ve been told it`s going down as an own goal. I got a touch on and it skimmed it off the defender. “It would have been great to score the 2,00th goal and I`m a bit disappointed but I`m not a goalscorer and I won`t be crying too much.”
Sweden defender Majstorovic said: “It was good for you guys that I scored but it should be given to Barry. I know it was a special goal but I don`t want to be in the record books.”
On the goal Capello said: “I read all the statistics but, for me, it`s not so important. It`s important, probably, after 10 years: people will say this player scored the 2,000th goal.”
