FIFTH MEETING OF AZERBAIJAN-AUSTRIA INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION HELD IN VIENNA
Azerbaijani delegation led by Minister of Economic Development Mr. Heydar Babayev attended the 5th meeting of Azerbaijan-Austria Intergovernmental Commission in Vienna.
The event brought together the officials from the both countries‘ Ministries of Agriculture, Ecology, Finance, Culture, Tourism and the businessmen.
Addressing the meeting, Mr. Babayev told of achievements in socio-economic area of Azerbaijan. He underlined that Azerbaijan leads the world in GDP growth rates and in the first ranks among the CIS countries on amount of investments per capita. GDP grew by 25% in 2007 as a result of the economic reforms, about US $ 8 bln was invested in various areas of the country and trade turnover carried out with approximately 140 countries of world. Over the past four years, about 650 thousand job places were opened in the country. Minister noted that commodity turnover between the two countries increased by 15,5% in 2007 over the 2006 figure.
The participants also discussed the cooperation in banking, industry and energy, agriculture, environment protection and tourism areas. They decided to hold the sixth meeting in Azerbaijan.
