FOURTH MEETING OF AZERBAIJAN-PAKISTAN INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION HELD IN ISLAMABAD
The fourth meeting of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan joint intergovernmental commission will take place February 6-7 in Pakistan.
The commission will be chaired by first deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov and Pakistani Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources Amanullah Khan Jadoon. The Azerbaijan delegation includes Minister of Defense Industry Yaver Jamalov, Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov, Minister of Education Misir Mardanov and other senior officials. The head of Azerbaijan delegation met with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz of Pakistan.
During the meetings, the sides expressed their confidence that the fourth meeting will give a kick-start to the economic, scientific, technical and cultural ties between the two countries.
During the meeting of experts of both countries, Pakistani side pointed out there is enormous economic potential for increasing trade turnover.
The meeting focused on the export opportunities of both countries.
On the sidelines of the fourth meeting, Education Minister M. Mardanov met with Pakistani Minister for Science and Technology Naurez Shakoor and chairman of Pakistan Higher Education Commission, Federal Minister Atta-ur Rahman to discuss education issues.
Azerbaijan Minister of Defense Industry Y. Jamalov met with his Pakistani counterpart to exchange views on defense issues.
In conclusion, the protocol of the fourth meeting of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan intergovernmental commission was singed. The sides agreed to hold the fifth meeting in 2008 in Baku.
The ceremony of laying a foundation stone of the Azerbaijan’s embassy in Islamabad was held on February 7 with participation of co-chairs of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Commission, representatives of the diplomatic corps in Islamabad, members of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Friendship Society and other officials.
