FRANCE, AZERBAIJAN: ECONOMIC COMMISSION’S MEETING HELD
In meeting, attended by representatives of numerous French ministries and companies, Azerbaijan was represented by a delegation headed by Economic Development Minister Heydar Babayev. Delegation of Azerbaijan comprised contributors of foreign, health, industry and energy, agricultural ministries, as well as the state customs and securities committees, AZAL and National Bank.
Christine Lagarde, co-chair of the Commission on the French side, opened the meeting. She spoke of increasing economic cooperation between two countries. She called for wider cooperation in the coming years, noting available conditions and existent potential of the countries for that.
Then, the French minister dwelt on activity of the French companies investing in economy of Azerbaijan, the international importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, energy safety, the prospects of cooperation between two counties in the field of aviation and civil defense.
Azerbaijan economically has strengthened its position, thanks to flexible and expedient reforms conducted in the Republic under guidance of President Ilham Aliyev, Minister Heydar Babayev emphasized. The Minister updated on the activities carried out to boost the non-oil sector. “The economic relations should be directed and on solution of the global questions”, he added.
Heydar Babyev emphasized special role of the French companies in investing in the country. The sides have also had negotiations on purchase of modern aircrafts and helicopters, on expansion of cooperation in the field of agriculture, tourism, customs and tax spheres.
The meeting ended in signing of the negotiated documents.
