Azerbaijan’s Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev met March 28 with visiting Baku Georgian Minister of Energy Nika Gilauri.

Georgian Minister expressed gratitude to the people and government of Azerbaijan for helping Georgia, which faced energy difficulties because of a halt of natural gas supplies from Russia. He said the main objective of his visit is to offer extension of the natural gas deal, which expires on April 1.

The meeting focused on the volume of Shahdeniz gas to be imported to Georgia and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum gas pipeline operation and other issues.

According to N. Aliyev, Azerbaijan will pursue its own interest and pay a special attention to meeting domestic demand. The deal was designed to get Georgia out of energy crisis in winter. Georgia received 2.3 million cubic meters of gas. After respective government agencies consider a deal extension offer, they will make a final decision.
