GERMANY-AZERBAIJAN BUSINESS FORUM
The Azerbaijan-Germany business forum took place at the “House of German Economy” in Berlin, 16 February.President of Azerbaijan attended the event with 40 representatives from 34 Azerbaijan companies and 150 German businessmen.
Head of the East and Central European Union Clause Ksolner opened the forum. Then, speaking was the head of the Board of Executive Directors of the German “Wintershall” Company Reinier Zwitserloot and Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Michael Glos. They noted intensive development of Azerbaijan economy, stating that the country directs the oil revenues to the non-oil sector, which, according to them, is a positive case. Expansion of ties with the German businessmen will bring positive results, they stressed. The speakers highly assessed the new oil strategy of the country with leading role in region.
Touching upon the cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan, the German executives called on their companies to invest in non-oil sector of Azerbaijan’s economy. At their words, Germany, as the chairman of the European Union, will support Azerbaijan’s membership at the World Trade Organizations.
President Ilham Aliyev made speech at the business forum.
The Head of the Azerbaijan State said his current visit would give a new impetus to the Azerbaijan-Germany relations. He, in particular, highly estimated the cooperation in the energy sphere. Energy partnership between the European Union and Azerbaijan is of global importance, he emphasized.
President Aliyev called on the German businessmen to benefit from the reliable environment established in Azerbaijan and to invest in its economy. The agreements to be signed between businessmen of the two countries will expand relations, he said.
President Ilham Aliyev spoke of activity of the Oil Fund, the importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and Azerbaijan’s role in the East-West corridor.
Then, minister of economic development of Azerbaijan Heydar Babayev informed on the investment conditions, trade and business opportunities in the country.
