Gulf Cooperation Council members to be involved in EuraCA
Baku, May 21 (AZERTAC). An Azerbaijani delegation led by Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov took part in the 20th Conference of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The conference, attended by government officials working in ICT field from the Gulf countries, including representatives of international organizations and research institutions, aimed at identifying of new areas for development of cooperation and sharing of know-how in e-government, e-services and exchange of other advanced ICT solutions.
Minister Ali Abbasov, who was invited as a keynote speaker at the opening ceremony, spoke about ICT reforms, large-scale events and achievements obtained in the region and Azerbaijan over recent years. The minister spoke about main projects of regional importance, highlighting today Azerbaijan is the coordinator of big trans-national projects such as Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM), which received political support for the second time by resolution of the UN General Assembly, and Eurasian Connectivity Alliance (EuraCA), created at the initiative of Azerbaijani Government. The GCC member states may participate in these projects, and it also would be beneficial for everyone, said Ali Abbasov.
The minister provided information about current state and challenges of ICT in Eurasia and neighboring region, made public the programme of EuraCA for further development of the region.
At the conference, it was decided to involve the GCC countries in the EuraCA.
During the visit, Minister Ali Abbasov also held bilateral meetings with state officials from the participating countries, as well as heads of leading ICT corporations.
