Hungarian art critic to deliver lecture in Baku
Baku, February 28 (AZERTAC). Hungarian Zsolt Petranyi, an established curator and art critic who lives and works in Budapest, will give a lecture and a presentation in Baku.
Organized by Yarat Contemporary Art Space, the event will take place at the International Mugam Center on March 3.
Petranyi is also heads the Section of Contemporary Arts at Hungarian National Gallery.
The presentation titled “What is success? - Hungarian success projects abroad, contemporary art seen from the inside and from outside” will focus on different internationally successful projects related to Hungary.
The event will see some realized works from the Hungarian Pavilion in the Venice Biennial which had an aftereffect, and see other contributions to other Biennials. Participants will get some answers on the background of the prosperous works.
The event will provide an insight into the project of the Little Warsaw group, the Body of Nefertiti in Venice in 2003, Andreas Fogarasi in 2007, Istvan Csakanys participation on the Documenta 2012, Adam Kokesh on the Istanbul Biennial last year, Attila Csorgo on the last Sydney Biennial or Tamas Kaszas on the next among others.
The lecturer will speak about ACAX organization who helps international curators to the artists, and analyze, how the fall of the iron curtain created an interest towards the region. The lecture will also address the feeling of frustration, the too slow development of the local market, the experience of participating in international art fairs, the shadow of the „big” avant-garde generation from the 60’s, and the negative effect of the right wing government on culture in Hungary.
