Hungary condemns irresponsible and unilateral resolution issued by European Parliament
Budapest, October 28, AZERTAC
“Hungary emphasizes that the EU should adopt a constructive and balanced approach toward both Azerbaijan and Armenia. The condemnation of Baku could have a negative impact on the EU's role as a mediator between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as hinder attempts toward a peaceful settlement of the conflict,” said Péter Sztáray, State Secretary for Security Policy and Energy Security at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in response to a question from an AZERTAC correspondent regarding the controversial resolution adopted by the European Parliament on October 23.
“A resolution issued by the European Parliament on Wednesday proposes reducing diplomatic channels with Baku and suspending the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding on the Strategic Partnership in the field of energy between the EU and Azerbaijan. As Hungary is committed to maintaining channels of communication, we are worried about this development and would like to underscore that, without the involvement of both sides, no solution can be found to ensure the long-term security of the region. The Hungarian Government is a steadfast supporter of advancing the partnership between the European Union and Azerbaijan and, therefore, condemns another irresponsible and unilateral resolution issued by the EP,” added Péter Sztáray.
