IDB INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT CONFERENCE KICKS OFF IN BAKU
The event gathered over 100 businessmen from IDB member countries, representatives of the state bodies, diplomatic corps, international organizations and local entrepreneurs.
The event started with opening remarks by Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan Heydar Babayev. Minister expressed his confidence that international conference will contribute to further expansion of cooperation among IDB member states.
After reading ayats from the holy Koran, Minister of Economic Development Heydar Babayev read out President Ilham Aliyev’s address to the conference participants.
IDB President Ahmad Mohammad Ali expressed gratitude to the government and people of Azerbaijan headed by President Ilham Aliyev for high-level organization of the event. He stressed that Baku international investment conference aims to boost mutual investments among IDB member states. He said the economy of Azerbaijan has notably developed for the recent period.
According to him, the commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline has sped up development of the economy with the country posting one of the world’s highest GDP growth rates.
IDB has allocated funds to implement 2 projects in Azerbaijan. Some more projects are under discussion.
IDB President pointed out that IDB regional research center would be established in Baku, expressing willingness to support Azerbaijan government’s initiative.
Then, foreign and local investors told of the development of Azerbaijan’s economy, accomplishments achieved, and favorable business and investment environment.
After the break, Deputy Economic Development Minister Mikail Jabbarov reported on the prospects of the economic development and investment milieu in Azerbaijan.
The report was followed by presentation of the business projects and local companies.
