INT`L CONFERENCE ON RELIGIOUS POLICY IN AZERBAIJAN LAUNCHED IN BAKU
The international conference ``Heydar Aliyev and religious policy in Azerbaijan: realities and outlooks`` organized by the State Committee of Azerbaijan Republic for the Work with Religious Associations (SCWRA) commenced April 3 in the Gulustan palace.
Addressing the conference, SCWRA Chairman Hidayat Orujov said that conducting such conference with the participation of the representatives from 20 countries will play an important role in development of the interreligious relations and dialogues both in Azerbaijan and in the whole region.
Head of the socio-political department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov read out the letter of congratulation of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev to the conference participants.
Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Clerical Office of Caucasus Moslems said that conference is aimed to study the realities of Azerbaijan and propagandize them. He, in particular, said: ``Azerbaijan is the place of unification of religions and civilizations. The tolerance formed in Azerbaijan over the ages has turned into the moral value of the nation. State and religious relations were improved due to the right policy of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev. He attached a huge significance to deepening of relations with the international religious structures. At Heydar Aliyev`s invitation, Pope of Rome John Paul II, Patriarch of Moscow and All-Russia Alexy II, Patriarch of All-Georgia Ilya II visited Azerbaijan and held international symposiums here``.
Currently, this policy is successfully continued by the President Ilham Aliyev, said Sheyk-ul-islam. The temples are being built and restored. He stressed the role of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation led by PM, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO Mehriban Aliyeva.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Elchin Efendiyev, Ministers, heads of the religious confessions, Ambassadors of the foreign countries and journalists attended the conference.
The conference is underway.
