Iran to supply 10 bn cm of gas to Oman per year
Baku, August 19 (AZERTAC). Persian Gulf (PG) states` demand for Iran`s natural gas is increasing, Ali Majedi Iran`s Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs and Trade said, according to IRNA.
He said Tehran-Muscat negotiations for export of Iran`s gas to Oman are in progress and the roadmap for finalizing the agreement has been already prepared.
“Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Dubai need Iran`s gas for desalination and of course, the volume of their gas demand is much less compared to other importers of Iran`s gas including Iraq and Turkey,” Majedi added.
The official confirmed negotiations between Iran`s Oil Ministry and Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Dubai in this regard.
Iran and Oman signed a contract under which the Islamic Republic will supply the Persian Gulf state with 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
The agreement was sealed during a visit to Muscat by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in March.
The project is expected to come on stream within three years.
The pipeline and related infrastructure, estimated at around USD1 billion, will be entirely funded by Oman.
The deal comes out of a 60-billion-dollar agreement between the two countries in August 2013, under which Iran will be delivering gas to the Persian Gulf state for 25 years.
Iran, which sits on the world`s second largest natural gas reserves after Russia, has been trying to enhance its gas production by increasing foreign and domestic investment, especially in its South Pars gas field.
