Israel reopens Gaza crossing for humanitarian aid deliveries

Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announced that, in coordination with the American Civil Military Coordination Center (CMCC), it has been decided to reopen the Kerem Shalom Crossing (between Israel and Gaza) starting today for the “gradual” entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, according to TPS-IL.
“This decision was made in accordance with a security assessment, against the backdrop of Operation Roaring Lion, and under security restrictions that will ensure the safety of all those present at the crossing on both sides,” said COGAT.
In this context, a mechanism tailored to the current security situation has been formulated, in cooperation with the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Southern Command and the Land Crossings Authority at the Ministry of Defense, to enable the operation of the crossing and the entry of aid in a safe manner, while providing a humanitarian response in accordance with the ongoing situational assessment and the needs identified by the UN and international organizations.
“The IDF, through COGAT, will continue to facilitate the entry of aid into the Gaza Strip, in line with Israel’s commitments and subject to the necessary security restrictions stemming from the security situation,” said COGAT.
