January 20 tragedy commemorated abroad
Baku, January 22 (AZERTAC). Victims of January 20 tragedy have been commemorated in several countries.
The event held at the Canadian Toronto University has brought together Azerbaijani students and members of the Azerbaijani community living in the country.
Opening the event, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Canada Farid Shafiyev spoke about the January 20 tragedy, and its role in regaining Azerbaijan`s independence.
A documentary on the tragedy was shown at the event.
A commemorative event on the January 20 victims has been held in Eyup Sultan Cultural Centre in New York, too. The event was organized by the Azerbaijani-American Women Association of New York.
An event marking the 24th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy has also been held in Finland. The commemorative event was organized by the Azerbaijani Diaspora in Finland. Delivering a speech at the event, head of the “Friendship” Azerbaijan Society Tarana Nazarova said that the January 20 tragedy was one of the bloody pages of the Azerbaijani history.
The Azerbaijani Consulate General in Saint Petersburg and All-Russia Azerbaijani Congress organized a commemorative event to mark the 24th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy. Consul General Elshad Gulamov and others delivered speeches at the event.
The Azerbaijani Embassy in Bulgaria has also organized an event commemorating the memory of January 20 victims.
Delivering a speech at the event ambassador Emil Karimov spoke about the Bloody January tragedy.
The event organized by the Azerbaijani Consulate General in Los Angeles has brought together Consul Generals of different countries to US, public figures and journalists. The event participants viewed a photo exhibition on the January 20 tragedy.
