KAZAKHSTAN LIKELY TO PRESIDE AT OSCE IN 2009
Miguel Angel Moratinos, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, current president of the ODSCE, has visited Kazakhstan and met with the President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
At the news conference held after the meeting, Miguel Angel Moratinos stated that the question of presidency of Kazakhstan at OSCE in 2009 would be solved positively. He noted that the necessary consensus on the matter would be reached in November current year in Madrid at the ministers’ level.
President of Kazakhstan Nazarbayev, in turn, said that the country has gained notable results in the political, economic fields and in the sphere of democracy. Just therefore, Kazakhstan is worth to preside at the OSCE. According to him, 12 CIS member countries support Kazakhstan’s presidency, which is very important.
President of the OSCE also met with Speaker of Kazakh Parliament Ural Muhammadjanov and foreign minister Marat Tazhin.
