LATVIA KEENS TO BOOST TIES WITH AZERBAIJAN
“Azerbaijan is of great significance for Latvia which is a member of European Union and NATO”. Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Latvia Tofig Zulfugarov declared this opinion.
The diplomat said that Azerbaijan tries to deepen relations with EU, measures are undertaken within the “New Neighborhood Policy”. “Baltic countries, especially Latvia plays an important role in realization of this program. Azerbaijan, which rapidly develops, needs a support of friendly countries to have access to EU market. Latvia can be one of these countries”, he underlined.
Azerbaijani ambassador noted that opening of embassies of the two countries in Riga and Baku is a great contribution to the expansion of cooperation. He highly appreciated the visit of Latvia`s President Vaira Vike-Freiberga to Azerbaijan in 2005 and visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Latvia in 2006 for development of bilateral cooperation.
Touching upon the importance of the meetings by the Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Artis Pabriks in Baku directed on boosting Azerbaijani-Latvian relations, T. Zulfugarov said that there were 20 businessmen in the structure of the delegation. He noted that the development of Azerbaijan`s economy has attracted the attention of the Latvian businessmen.
