Memorial plaque to Mstislav Rostropovich unveiled in St. Petersburg
Baku, March 19 (AZERTAC). A memorial plaque for Mstislav Rostropovich has been unveiled in St. Petersburg, Russia.
A celebrated Baku-born cellist and conductor, Rostropovich died at the age of 80 in 2007.
The plaque at the 16 Naberezhnaya Kutuzova commemorates the home Rostropovich lived in.
The ceremony to unveil the plaque was attended by the late cellist`s daughters Yelena and Olga, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Vasily Kichedzhi, Consul General of France in St. Petersburg Tibo Fourrier, director of Russian Museum Vladimir Gusev, and filmmaker Aleksandr Sokurov, as well as local public figures.
Speaking to the ceremony, the Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg called Rostropovich “the greatest musician of the 20th century”.
The plaque was made by sculptor Rustam Igamberdiyev, architect Anton Medvedev, and painter Aleksandr Dodon.
