Milli Majlis adopts statement of protest against European Parliament resolution

The head of the working group, Vice Speaker Valeh Alasgarov has informed about the document.
The document notes that Azerbaijan is one of the founders of the Euronest Parliament Assembly. And the associative agreement with the European Union is underway.
According to the statement, the discussion of the issue about Azerbaijan at the plenary session of the European Parliament on 13 June and adoption of a resolution is not understandable.
“The hasty adoption of such a document by the European Parliament without clarifying the issue causes regret. The extension of imprisonment of several persons is associated with the discovery of new facts. The demand of unconditional and immediate release of the detainees is unacceptable.”
The statement underlines that the official presidential campaign has not started in Azerbaijan, and presidential candidates have not been registered.
“Changes made to the Criminal Code do not prevent the adoption of the law on defamation. And there is no problem regarding the internet. The Azerbaijani people have taken the path of democratic development. Azerbaijan has an efficient mechanism of defending human rights and freedoms.
Discussing Azerbaijan as a country violating the rights at the European Parliament is assessed as a biased event.
This is an attempt to divert the policy of the European Union regarding Azerbaijan. This coincides with the adoption of the decision on a new gas corridor and visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Brussels, which indicates to economic interests.
Azerbaijan is an independent state and develops relations with the European Union on the basis of equality. No power can divert Azerbaijan from the path of democratic development”, the vice-speaker emphasized.
