MINISTERS DISCUSS AZERBAIJAN-INDIA RELATIONSHIP
A delegation led by the Indian Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh met a delegation led by Azerbaijani minister for Economic Development Heydar Babayev on April 11.The Azerbaijani minister for Economic Development Heydar Babayev briefed economic reforms founded by the nationwide leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and successfully continued by Ilham Aliyev, the results of these reforms that led to the achievements in all spheres of the country’s economy.
The Azerbaijani minister emphasized that at present the yearly volume of the commercial turnover between India and Azerbaijan is 58,5 million US dollars. Considering it a low indicator, minister expressed hope that the existing ties would be developed.
The Indian Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh said India attaches great value to cooperation with Azerbaijan in all fields of economy. Expressing satisfaction with his visit to Azerbaijan, Indian minister stated that his country was interested in the joint activity in the sphere of information technologies and energy sector.
At the end of the meeting, an agreement was signed between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of India on establishment of commission on cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, science and technology. The document was signed by Heydar Babayev on behalf of Azerbaijan, Minister for Economic Development, and by Jairam Ramesh, Minister of State for Commerce, on behalf of India.
Heydar Babayev and Jairam Ramesh held a news conference for local and foreign mass media and responded questions of journalists.
Azerbaijan’s ambassador to India Tamerlan Garayev and India’s ambassador to Azerbaijan Baharat Raj Mutu Kumar attended the meeting.
