MM SPEAKER MEETS WITH ISSA PRESIDENT
Milli Majlis speaker Ogtay Asadov met January 17 with visiting president of the International Social Security Association (ISSA), Mrs. Corazon De la Paz.
O. Asadov updated ISSA president on the economic development in Azerbaijan, reforms to ensure people’s social security. MM chairman said that economic development in Azerbaijan provides opportunities for strengthening the people’s social security. 2007 state budget is investment and socially oriented. The parliament passed progressive laws in the social sphere. Milli Majlis adopted 12 laws in the fall session, of which 4 are related to the social security.
According to him, there is great impediment for the development. Occupation of 20 per cent of Azerbaijan lands by Armenia drove over 1 million people from their homes. The government took upon itself their social security. O. Asadov expressed his hope that ISSA president’s visit to Azerbaijan will have a positive impact on the relationship with the State Social Protection Fund of Azerbaijan and social security cooperation
Mrs. Corazon de la Paz said she is aware of the ongoing processes in Azerbaijan. She pointed out that ISSA highly appraises the reforms in the social security field in Azerbaijan. Corazon de la Paz expressed her confidence that ISSA will develop ties with the State Social Protection Fund of Azerbaijan.
Present at the meeting also were Salim Muslumov, chairman of the State Social Protection Fund, Hady Rajabli, chairman of the MM standing commission on social policy and other officials.
