NATIONAL FORUM OF NGO HOLDS ROUND TABLE
The event was attended by representatives of government structures, Milli Majlis, as well as NGOs functioning in the country, public associations and societies.
Chief of the Socio-political Dept of the President’s Administration Ali Hasanov delivered the report “NGO-Government Relationship: Current Situation and Prospects of Adoption of the State Program on NGOs Development.” He noted that by developing NGOs, the Government thus, supports civil initiative, but the NGOs, according to him, should function for the purposes designated originally not interfering with political processes. Mr. Hasanov pointed as well to simplification of the state registration procedure for NGOs noting at the same time, that involvement of representatives of some of the NGOs in political processes may lead to wrong interpretation of the sector’s functions by the public.
The speakers appreciated the state concern about NGO sector development, and put forward proposals on elimination of the existing problems. It was noted that purposeful activity of the NGOs requires improvement of their legal basis and development of local donorship. The participants also suggested establishing a special structure regulating activities of NGOs.
