National leader Heydar Aliyev commemorated in Amman
Baku, January 6 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Embassy to Jordan and Amman City Municipality have organized a commemorative event on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the death of national leader Heydar Aliyev.
Attended by representatives of Jordan-Azerbaijan Friendship Society and local media outlets, the event saw the participants plant olive and palm trees in the capital`s Heydar Aliyev Avenue in Badr district.
Opening the event, Azerbaijani Ambassador Sabir Aghabayov spoke of national leader Heydar Aliyev`s life and activities, and praised his services to the Azerbaijani people.
The Ambassador said national leader Heydar Aliyev, who returned to power at the request of the people, played a crucial role in strengthening Azerbaijan`s statehood, preventing civil war and restoring socio-political stability in the country.
The Ambassador thanked deputy chairman of Amman City Municipality Fawzi Mussad, chairman of Badr district Municipality, management of Jordan-Azerbaijan Friendship Society and members of Azerbaijan Women`s Committee under the Society for their assistance in organizing the event.
Deputy chairman of Amman City Municipality Mussad said Azerbaijan and Jordan enjoyed friendly and brotherly relations, adding it was evidenced by the fact that there was Heydar Aliyev Avenue in Amman, while one of the streets in Baku was named after late Jordanian King Hussein.
He hailed the Azerbaijani Embassy`s initiative to arrange an event commemorating national leader Heydar Aliyev.
