Nowruz celebrated at UN headquarters
Baku, March 25 (AZERTAC). A celebrative event has been held at the United Nations Headquarters to mark the International Nowruz Day.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, India, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
Speaking to the event, Azerbaijan`s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Agshin Mehdiyev highlighted the historical and cultural importance of Nowruz to the Azerbaijani people.
Visitors to the event had an opportunity to taste holiday sweets and watch videos on Nowruz traditions.
Initiated by Azerbaijan, International Nowruz Day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2010.
