Outgoing head of UNICEF Office in Azerbaijan meets Deputy Premier of Azerbaijan
Baku, June 11 (AZERTAC). Chairman of the State Committee on Refugee and IDP affairs, Deputy Premier, chairman of the national commission on international humanitarian aid Ali Hasanov has met with Mark Hereward who is completing his mission as the Representative for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Azerbaijan.
The Deputy Prime Minister hailed the efforts of Hereward to create cooperative relations between the organization and Azerbaijan over the past years as the head of the UNICEF office in Azerbaijan. He noted that the UNICEF had implemented respective programs to protect the rights of IDP and refugee children from Nagorno-Karabakh, safeguard their health and solve education-related problems.
First programs of the UNICEF programs dealing with humanitarian needs and national priorities were replaced by national programs, which contributed to the children-related state policy, strengthening the system of protecting social security rights of IDP children.
He underlined that children`s problems occupy a special place in the domestic policy of the country. Azerbaijan is a partner of some international organizations, including the UNICEF. This cooperation gives impetus to important programs on child development. According to him, cooperation with the UNICEF contributed to child development and ensuring their interests.
Hereward thanked the government of Azerbaijan for supporting UNICEF-led projects. Hereward noted that Azerbaijan achieved a number of successes to protect children’s rights. He described cooperation with Azerbaijan, joint efforts to protect children’s rights as a good example and expressed confidence that this cooperation would continue to develop.
Deputy Premier congratulated Hereward for his appointment as deputy director of the UNICEF regional office for African countries.
