PA BSEC”S MEETINGS HELD IN BAKU
President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, Speaker of Azerbaijan parliament Ogtay Asadov opened the meeting. Today the Organization plays significant role in development of dialogue and cooperation among the parliaments, as well as the relations among our nations, Mr. Asadov stressed. PA BSEC attaches great importance to international cooperation and it has established links with a number of world countries’ parliaments, including the European Parliament.
Then, Speaker of Milli Majlis informed on the agenda, saying the protocols of the pervious meeting (June 6, 2006) would be confirmed and discussed the prospective plans.
In general meeting of the Assembly, participating is the BSEC Secretary General of the permanent International Secretariat, representatives of the member-countries’ parliaments and others. Representatives of the National Assembly of France and Senate, Israel Knesset, European Commission, European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, CIS Parliamentary Assembly and others take part as observers.
The participants will especially discuss how to raise effectiveness of the BSEC. Besides, the issues of alternative energy sources, improvement of legal base to protect intellectual property, the globalization process and threats to cultural diversity will be focused.
As stated, The Presidency at PA BSEC will pass to Bulgaria.
The same day, Ogtay Asadov chaired the meeting of Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Standing Committee as well.
After the organizational questions set, Member of Azerbaijan Parliament Asaf Hajiyev has been elected deputy chairman of Assembly.
Next meeting of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization will take place on June 5, 2007 in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria.
