PACE co-rapporteurs visit Ministry of Justice
Baku, May 22 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani Minister of Justice, Chairman of the Judicial-Legal Council Fikrat Mammadov has met co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for Azerbaijan Pedro Agramunt and Joseph Debono Grech.
The Minister praised the fruitful cooperation with the European Council and noted that the visit of Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland and the organization’s Action Plan for Azerbaijan adopted for upcoming 2014-2016 years would contribute to the mutual activity.
The PACE co-rapporteurs hailed the state of implementation of Azerbaijan’s obligations assumed after the country became the member of the Council of Europe.
The PACE co-rapporteurs also touched on the progressive reforms carried out in the judicial-legal system.
They also inquired about the activity of the Judicial-Legal Council and measures taken for increasing confidence in judicial system.
The Minister noted that the reforms had been carrying out successfully in judicial-legal system and informed the PACE co-rapporteurs about the improvement of the legislation in this sphere, expanding the competence of the Judicial-Legal Council, increasing the independence of judges and considerable boosting their salaries, successful activity of the administrative justice and other issues.
