POLAND’S LEADER MEETS WITH AZERBAIJANI SPEAKER
Polish President Lech Kaczynski met today with Chairman of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan Parliament) Oqtay Asadov.
After Mr. Kaczynski and Mr. Asadov met in private, they were joined by the Polish and Azerbaijani delegations.
The Speaker spoke of the history of Azerbaijan’s relationship with Poland.
Oqtay Asadov said the relations between the two countries have started developing more rapidly after Azerbaijan regained independence.
He stressed the huge role the two countries’ leaders played in enhancing the ties between Azerbaijan and Poland.
Mr. Asadov said it is also very important to boost the bilateral interparliamentary relations.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Milli Majlis Chairman stressed his country’s just stance.
Oqtay Asadov expressed his gratitude to the Polish President for supporting Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
Lech Kaczynski said there is a huge potential for enhancement of the bilateral relations between Poland and Azerbaijan in all spheres.
“We are much keen to strengthen these ties”, he noted.
The Polish leader also touched upon the bilateral interparliamentary relations, and said he believes the Polish-Azerbaijani friendship group will soon be created in Poland’s Senate.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Mr. Kaczynski said his country wants the dispute to be peacefully solved.
Lech Kaczynski and Oqtay Asadov also discussed a wide range of other issues of mutual concern.
Also in attendance at the meeting were first deputy Milli Majlis Chairman Ziyafat Asgarov, deputy Chairman Valeh Alasgarov, Head of the Milli Majlis Apparatus Safa Mirzayev and other top-ranking officials.
