PREMIER OF AZERBAIJAN MEETS SPEAKER OF THE FEDERATION COUNCIL OF RUSSIA
Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizade today met with Speaker of the Federation Council of Russian Federation Sergey Mironov and his delegation. As noted by Mr. Rasizade, the relations between Azerbaijan and Russia develop in all fields. The Year of Russia in Azerbaijan passed with great success last year, he said.
Speaking of the economic achievements Azerbaijan gained, the Premier said that last year Azerbaijan was leader in GDP growth in the world. Then, he noted large-scale energy projects Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum oil and gas pipelines, the signed document on construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. Economic growth enables quick realization of social problems, he stressed. At his words, from 2003 to 2006, about 700 schools, new roads and water pipelines have been built in the country.
Speaking of the unsolved problems, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan dwelt on the major of them - the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The Premier updated the guests on the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group to solve the problem. Nevertheless, due to destructive position of the Armenian side, the conflict still remains unsolved, he underlined. As noted, the Azerbaijani side adheres solution of the conflict on the base of international law.
Speaker of the Federation Council of Russian Federation expressed consent with the current level of relations between the two countries, noting that last year the goods turnover between Russia and Azerbaijan totaled about 1 billion dollars.
The sides also focused on other issues of mutual interest.
