PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV ATTENDS GALA CONCERT OF MUGHAM-2007 TV CONTEST WINNERS

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva attended Friday a gala concert of winners of the three-month mugham-2007 TV contest at the Azerbaijan State Theater of Opera and Ballet. The contest was held by the “Azerbaijan TV and Radio Broadcasting” joint-stock company with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, under the Friends of Azerbaijani Culture Foundation`s project.

The concert was preceded by the documentary on the contest. The film narrated on the musical album “Karabakh Khanende” produced on the initiative of Mehriban Aliyeva, first contest in 2005, the meeting of President Ilham Aliyev with contest finalists, foundation-laying ceremony of the International Mugham Center in Baku, concerts of mugham singers in Paris, Washington, Russia, and publishing of the new magazine on mugham.

Then, young contest winners appeared on the stage to perform mugham songs.

After the concert, President Ilham Aliyev proceeded to the backstage to meet the young performers.

“Accept my congratulations, you are mugham contest winners. The people of Azerbaijan have viewed this contest for three months. You managed to take top places in a very tough competition. It is a great achievement. I cordially congratulate you on this occasion. I sure you will make Azerbaijani people happy with your talent and improve your proficiency,” the President said

“This contest was initiated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Azerbaijan Television. I welcome this initiative. I think that it is a very valuable initiative,”- the Head of State added.
