PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES WHO DIRECTOR-GENERAL MARGARET CHAN
Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev received Thursday Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Margaret Chan and her accompanying delegation.
Margaret Chan said she is pleased to be in Azerbaijan again, and stressed this is her first visit to the country as WHO chief.
President Ilham Aliyev congratulated Margaret Chan on her appointment as Director-General of the World Health Organization.
The President expressed confidence Azerbaijan-WHO cooperation will be further enhanced.
The Azerbaijani leader said: “From your visit to Azerbaijan, which will last for a couple of days, you certainly know that we have quite a lot of plans to improve our whole health system, to modernize and equip it with most modern equipment, as well as to build new hospitals. And we have already done a good work in this direction, but we still have greater plans ahead”.
Margaret Chan thanked President Ilham Aliyev for backing her candidacy during elections to the post of WHO Director-General.
She said: “I am very satisfied with my visit. Basing on my meetings with representatives of the mass media and various people, I say that the people of Azerbaijan are very happy, because they have the president who is so much concerned about their health”.
Margaret Chan praised the Azerbaijani Government`s starting health reforms and its plans to start applying compulsory health insurance and to use the funds of the State Oil Fund to improve health services.
She also recalled her meeting with Azerbaijan`s first lady Mehriban Aliyeva in Geneva last year.
