Bibiheybet shrine complex is the third largest shrine for the number of sacred tombs in the Islamic world as four representatives of Prophet’s family lie buried there. The shrine’s mosque was destroyed during the soviet period in 1934
National leader Heydar Aliyev laid a foundation stone of the mosque on July 23, 1997. A year later, the great leader inaugurated the main building of the mosque. President Ilham Aliyev remained committed to national leader’s ideas. His decrees and orders envisaged reconstruction of the Bibiheybet complex.
Given the rugged relief, the old houses were destroyed here to enlarge the shrine and road running near the Bibiheybet. The owners of the houses received new apartments or indemnities. The construction site is over 1800 sq. meters. The museum and library will be now available for pilgrims.
The Head of State was informed that about 3 thousand people can offer namaz in the mosque at a time. All conditions were created for women and men to say prayers separately.
The place for sacrifice was created here. The sacrificed animals were distributed today to poor people and shahid families. The complex will have a canteen and a special place for washing dead bodies.
Bibiheybet’s Akhund Hikmet Alizadeh said designers and builders did a great job. There is a boiler-room and water supply system there.
President Ilham Aliyev told of other work to be done in this part of the Caspian Sea. He gave recommendations concerning reconstruction work.
President Ilham Aliyev visited hezreti Hokume’s tomb and gave a nazir (donation) to the shrine.
President Ilham Aliyev stressed that reconstruction and repair work meeting modern standards will be continued in the shrines of Azerbaijan. He expressed his satisfaction with the work done in the Bibiheybet shrine, and offered his best wishes on the Holy Kurban Bayram.
