PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV VISITS ORDUBAD
After laying flowers at the monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev in the center of the town, the President visited the house museum of Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev and laid flowers at his monument.
He was informed that the two-storeyed building occupies an area of 190 square meters, and has over 2,000 exhibits reflecting life and activity of the world-renowned scientist.
The Head of State toured the museum and signed its memory book.
Afterwards, President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of a boarding school in Ordubad.
He made a speech at the ceremony.
“This is a very beautiful school. It has all conditions for studying, resting and sporting. So, I’m sure that children will do well in it, and will contribute to all-round development of our motherland when they grow up”, the President said.
Speaking of Azerbaijan’s all-round development, President Aliyev noted:
“Azerbaijan is strengthening as an independent country. It is increasing its political and economical potential. We san clearly see it by the example of Nakhchivan and Ordubad”.
“Economic potential is strengthening, budget expenditures are growing, and new jobs are being created. Surely, the people’s welfare is bettering, and it will continue bettering more rapidly”, the Head of State continued.
Speaking of problems Azerbaijan faced after regaining its independence, President Ilham Aliyev said Nakhchivan was in difficult situation too.
“In fact, the future of Nakhchivan, which was under blockade, was doubtful. Armenian aggressors were attempting to attack Nakhchivan”.
The President stressed that nevertheless Nakhchivan’s residents, led by their leader Heydar Aliyev, managed to defend Nakhchivan from the enemy.
Touching upon the role of national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev in development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the President said Heydar Aliyev made huge contributions to social and economic development of Nakhchivan when he was at the head of Azerbaijan in 1970-80s, and to ensuring its stability and security when it was under blockade in 1990-1993.
President Aliyev also spoke of the importance of global regional and international projects Azerbaijan is participating in.
“These projects will bring changes to the entire region. The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline is a huge economic and political project which will guarantee Azerbaijan’s rapid and successful development for many long years, scores of years, as well as provide energy security and strengthen our independence”, the Head of State noted.
One of the topics the President touched upon during his speech was Azerbaijan’s independence.
Ilham Aliyev said “regaining independence is a tremendous success for Azerbaijan people”.
“The independence is our hugest wealth and value. But to preserve, strengthen and perpetuate the independence is more difficult task”, he added.
On the current economic situation in Nakhchivan, the President said that over the last four years there has been 5-fold increase in Nakhchivan’s budget.
“It means five times more work can be done,” he said.
Ilham Aliyev stressed he is satisfied that the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and all his regions are successfully developing.
He said “as President of Azerbaijan, I will try my best for even more attention be paid to development of Nakhchivan’s economy”.
