PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN REPUBLIC RECEIVES US DELEGATION
Having warmly welcomed the guests, President Ilham Aliyev stressed the rapid development of the relationship between the two countries during the last years. He noted that the today’s successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and USA in many spheres had been triggered by the oil contract whose 10th anniversary would be marked in the near future.
The Head of State added that the steadily developing relations between the two countries in political, economic, security and other spheres, is based on the mutual understanding and support.
Having emphasized the American government’s particular role in realizing the large-scale energy projects in Azerbaijan, he expressed gratitude to the US leadership for the support.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence in further development of Azerbaijan-US cooperation in all spheres.
Having thanked the Azerbaijani President for the warm meeting, Mrs. Jones conveyed to him warm greetings from President of the United States George Bush, Secretary of State Collin Powel and Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.
She noted that President George Bush, recalling with satisfaction his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev in Istanbul, had highly appreciated their talks there. Mrs. Jones, also expressed gratitude for the fruitful political consultations on various issues held then with President Ilham Aliyev.
Pointing to rapid development of relations between the two countries, the guest stated that the US Administration highly appreciates the Azerbaijan’s active involvement in anti-terror coalition in Iraq and Afghanistan, describing this as a manifestation of friendliness.
President Ilham Aliyev finally, asked Mrs. Jones to convey his sincere greetings to President George Bush, as well as Mr. Collin Powel and Mr. Richard Armitage.
During the meeting, a number of other issues of mutual interest were discussed, as well.
Present at the meeting were Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov, Chief of the President Administration’s Foreign Relations Department Novruz Mammadov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the United States Hafiz Pashayev and Ambassador of the United States to Azerbaijan Reno Harnish.
