PROJECTS INITIATED BY AZERBAIJAN - GUARANTEE FOR PEACE AND STABILITY IN REGION
Answered the questions on position of Azerbaijan in region, its relations with neighboring countries, the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Minister highlighted on the peace talks carried out for settlement of the problem. Noting the principle of self-determination of people and territorial integrity of states contradict each other, Minister Mammadyarov said it would be right the peoples determined their destiny in the frame of territorial integrity, producing example on Tataristan and Boshkordistan within Russia.
Simultaneously, the Minister stressed non-constructive position of some foreign countries, including the Armenian lobby in the United States, in their relations with parliaments of these countries. This, the Minister said, hampers settlement of the problem.
Elmar Mammadyarov gave detailed information on the large economic projects, disclosing Azerbaijan’s position in this question, underlined that the Republic is interested in good neighboring ties. He said the economic projects Azerbaijan has initiated and joined, are guarantee for peace and stability in region, noting their strategic priorities.
Asked about status of the Islam in country, the Minister said Azerbaijan is a secular state and currently chairs at the Foreign Ministers Conference of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). Mr. Mammadyarov stressed necessity of mutual teaching of the Western and Islamic values.
The sides had large exchange of views on other questions of mutual interest.
