SOCAR PRESIDENT MEETS US SENATOR
President of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev met with US delegation led by Senator Richard Lugar, SOCAR said.
Abdullayev informed the US delegation about SOCAR`s joint projects with foreign companies, and its achievements over the last few years.
He stressed SOCAR`s active involvement in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, and added the company already started applying International Accounting Standards.
Abdullayev stressed President Ilham Aliyev`s role in SOCAR`s implementing investment projects in Turkey and Georgia.
Senator Lugar appreciated SOCAR`s achievements, and stressed he sees 2008 as a development year for the company.
The US senator noted Europe`s energy security is very important to his country, and praised Azerbaijan’s participation in European energy supply.
The meeting exchanged views on transportation of Central Asian countries` energy resources to Europe.
Abdullayev said “Azerbaijan is ready to play a role of a transit country in this issue, and has a cooperation agreement with Kazakhstan”.
Abdullayev said his country could provide its rich infrastructure to Caspian littoral states for contributing to Europe`s energy supply.
He pointed out the way for transportation of Turkmenistan’s gas to the West passes through Azerbaijan.
The US Senator also praised Azerbaijan’s supplying gas to Georgia.
