Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament meets Chairman of Russian State Duma
Moscow, June 5 (AZERTAC). An Azerbaijani delegation led by Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov has today met Chairman of the Russian State Duma Sergey Naryshkin in Moscow.
Sergey Naryshkin noted that the interparliamentary ties were integral part of the great political dialogue between the two countries.
He lauded a role of the legislative bodies in expanding bilateral ties between the two countries, and noted there were huge potential for boosting interparliamentary ties.
Sergey Naryshkin said mutual activity of the parliaments created favorable conditions for the cooperation in all fields, including political, trade, economic, and humanitarian ones.
Sergey Naryshkin reaffirmed Russia`s interest in strengthening and expanding the strategic partnership with Azerbaijan.
The Chairman of the State Duma noted the importance of the meeting of the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation with Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko and expressed confidence that the delegation’s meeting with Russian co-Chair of the intergovernmental commission, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin would also be fruitful for the Russia-Azerbaijan dialogue.
Ogtay Asadov praised intergovernmental relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.
The Speaker noted Azerbaijan also attaches ‘great’ importance to friendly and sincere neighborhood relations with the Russian Federation and described these relations as a ‘priority’ in the Azerbaijan’s foreign policy.
He said visits of the Russian high-ranking officials to Azerbaijan were expected in June. Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov will also visit Baku.
Ogtay Asadov also invited Dmitry Rogozin to visit Azerbaijan to attend a Baku meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
Ogtay Asadov expressed confidence that Azerbaijan and Russia would share the common ground at the OSCE PA to open in Baku on June 28.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu, committee chairpersons of the Azerbaijani Parliament Arif Rahimzada, Ali Huseynli, Head of Parliament Administration Safa Mirzayev, MPs, Russian senators, and members of the Duma Commission for the Russia-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary cooperation were present at the meeting.
