SPEAKERS OF PARLIAMENTS OF AZERBAIJAN AND RUSSIA GIVE JOINT PRESS CONFERENCE
Chairman of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, Ogtay Asadov and speaker of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Sergey Mironov held a press conference for local and foreign media outlets on March 28 at the “Respublika Luxe” hotel.
MM chairman expressed satisfaction with the level of Azerbaijan-Russia ties, and stressed a role of mutual visits of the Presidents of the two countries. MM speaker described Russia as the close neighbor of Azerbaijan and the biggest trade partner.
On the relationships between the two parliaments, O. Asadov said that interparliamentary commissions exist in both parliaments. According to him, parliamentarians of Russia and Azerbaijan share a common stance on many issues within international organizations.
S. Mironov told of the meetings held with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh and Chairman of Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov. He underlined that he had a fruitful discussions with the latter on the concrete steps towards further development of interparliamentary ties. According to him, the discussions also addressed the opening of branches of Russia’s leading higher educational institutions in Baku such as Lomonosov Moscow State University and Moscow Institute of International Relations.
S. Mironov said he and O. Asadov signed an agreement “On establishment of the Baku Branch of the International Institute of Monitoring of Development of Democracy, Parlimentarism, and observation of suffrage of citizens in the member states of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly”.
Then, O. Asadov and S. Mironov responded to the journalists’ questions.

Later the same day, on behalf of chairman of the Milli Majlis, Ogtay Asadov, an official reception was given in honor of Sergey Mironov.
Chairman of the Russia’s Federation Council wrapped up his visit to Azerbaijan on March 28. At the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, he was seen off by O. Asadov, deputy Foreign Minister Vagif Sadigov and other officials.
