STATEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER OF TURKEY RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN
“By gathering here, we showed a good example of regional cooperation to the world. We give a message to the globalizing world”, the Premier of Turkey emphasized. “This is our third step for regional cooperation. The historical Silk Road already becomes a railroad. But our solidarity does not mean mere regional cooperation. Every station of this railroad is a peace station, the station of friendship and solidarity. That is our message we give to the world”, he said. “Now, the Caucasus is a center of solidarity”.
“By signing this Framework Agreement, we give message to the coming generations as well. They will be beneficiaries of this cooperation. From this standpoint, the Agreement on construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is of great importance. We understand the historical and geographic responsibility of our countries located in a geopolitical space where the continents, seas, peoples and cultures connect”.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan pointed out that the Project promotes expansion of transport opportunities in region. At his words, by opening of the Batumi and Trabzon airports and the reconstructed Tbilisi airport “we get diversified transport lines in region and have alternative transit ways out”.
Touching upon the existent conflicts in region, the Premier of Turkey said the conflicts should find their solution. “Turkey always upholds fair resolution to these conflicts”, he stressed.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in particular, highly estimated the role of Azerbaijan in energy safety of region by realization of the large-scale economic projects.
