STATEMENT OF AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV
President Aliyev noted his useful talks with the German Chancellor, stressing constantly strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. At his words, the two countries have good political relations and joint economic projects enhance their economic cooperation. We have discussed our joint efforts in strengthening of the human rights and democratic processes in Azerbaijan, President Aliyev said. At the same time, the European Union-Azerbaijan relations, as well as regional and global threats were at the center of our talks, he added.
Speaking of the participation of Azerbaijan at the New Neighborhood Policy of the European Union, Mr. Aliyev said due to this program Azerbaijan in the coming 5 years would near all the points and standards of the European Union. Reminding the memo on strategic partnership between the European Union and Azerbaijan in the energy sphere signed in November last year, President of Azerbaijan expressed confidence for further cooperation.
President Ilham Aliyev highly assessed the fair position of the European Union related to the conflicts in the South Caucasus appeared as a result of separatist propensities. He expressed that the European Union would make certain contribution to this cause, too.
