Students of MSU's Baku branch launch new project
Baku, May 27 (AZERTAC). A group of students of the Baku branch of Moscow State University (MSU BB) have launched a new project with the support of the Office of the Seaside Boulevard, SOCAR’s Ecology Department and the IDEA campaign.
The goal of the project is to give orphans and young people from low-income families or boarding schools special education in a field of landscape design, which is not very popular but is in high demand. One of the main aims is to provide them an opportunity to get job. It is also planned to educate local professionals in landscape design in Azerbaijan.
Training as part of the project have already started. There are currently 12 young people attending classes on landscape design.
Classes include both theoretical and practical parts and are conducted by specialists from Moscow (MSU) and the staff of the Office of the Seaside Boulevard. The educational program mainly consists of vertical gardening courses, aimed at promoting this type of landscape design in Azerbaijan. The course will go on until the end of September and culminate with an exam. Those who pass the exam successfully will get a certificate of Moscow State University and will be employed by appropriate institutions.
There are no schools in Azerbaijan where experts in the field of landscape design can be educated. Government orders are fulfilled by foreign companies and local experts educated abroad.
The international student competition Enactus involves 1,600 universities from 38 countries. Within the competition students realize social, environmental and economic projects. At the initial stage the projects are nominated for the regional round, the winners participate in the international competition.
