TRILATERAL MEETING HELD IN TBILISI
A trilateral meeting of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, of the President of Georgia Michael Saakashvili and of the Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan took place at the building of Georgian Parliament, 7 February.President of Georgia noted importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, saying that it will serve development of regional cooperation.
Speaking of necessity of the project, President Aliyev said it would bring us closer and expand regional cooperation. Realization of the project will bring stability and peace to region, and in general, is adequate to economic interests of our peoples. President Aliyev also reminded importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum oil and gas pipelines, underlining that it will strengthen our relations. “We work together in the energy sector, but the cooperation in the non-oil sector is necessary and we do take certain measures in this direction”, the President of Azerbaijan said.
Noting that Azerbaijan will increase oil-gas production and export in 2007, President Aliyev said the current works serve regional cooperation.
Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway projects as the “Iron Silk Road”. At his words, the three projects will establish stability and economic development in region. He highly estimated value of these projects for welfare of regional cooperation.a
