UK parliament hosts annual event of Anglo-Azerbaijani Society
London, December 7 (AZERTAC). The "Churchill" room of the UK House of Commons has played host to the traditional annual event of the Anglo-Azerbaijani Society.
The event was attended by co-chair of the Anglo-Azerbaijani society, Prof. Nargiz Pashayeva, acting co-chair Kenneth Forest, Azerbaijan’s ambassador to the UK Fakhraddin Gurbanov as well as representatives foreign countries and general public.
Forest told of the activity of the Anglo-Azerbaijani society, progress achieved during the year. Forest expressed his confidence that the Anglo-Azerbaijani Society would continue its efforts to expand cultural and humanitarian ties between the countries.
Speaking at the event, Pashayeva remembered late co-chair Lord Fraser, saying he was the Azerbaijan`s true friend who contributed to development of cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries and peoples.
Pashayeva provided an insight into the history of the society and its projects implemented. She said the Society had brought to fruition a number of successful humanitarian, social, cultural projects in both Azerbaijan and UK.
Ambassador Gurbanov spoke of late co-chair Fraser who always paid special attention to such events. He hailed Fraser`s work as a co-chair, in particular, his contribution to the cultural and humanitarian ties between the countries. He noted the Society established a memorial fund, adding it will be helpful for the youth in Azerbaijan and UK.
The ambassador gave a background of the projects implemented together by the Anglo-Azerbaijani Society and the Azerbaijani Embassy, saying the diplomatic mission will continue to support the Society down the road.
Young Azerbaijani violinist Nazrin Rahisova performed world renowned compositions.
