UN CONFERENCE IN VIENNA
Azerbaijan is represented at the event by a delegation consisting of first deputy Prosecutor General Ramiz Rzayev /head/, Charge D’Affaires of the Embassy to Austria Kamil Khasayev, third Secretary Gulmirza Javadov, Chief of the Interior Ministry’s Department of International Cooperation Adalat Ibrahimov and deputy Chief of the Justice Ministry’s Department of Organizational -Analytical Department Malik Alakbarov.
Participants of the event have discussed the issues related to elaboration and implementation of the new mechanisms to perform regulations of the Convention in the countries joined the project.
It was noted that Azerbaijan had created legal basis for implementation of the Convention, and adopted the National Plan on Fight the organized crime including human trafficking and that of narcotic substances in the county’s territories occupied by Armenia.
In the framework of the conference, the head of the Azerbaijan delegation R. Rzayev met UN deputy Secretary General, Director General of the organization’s Vienna Office, Executive Director of the UN Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention Antonio Maria Costa. The parties have considered the ways to strengthen cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations in global fight against international crime, given high assessment to the talks Mr. Costa’s had had with the President of Azerbaijan and other country’s high ranking officials during his visit to Baku in 2003. Mr. Rzayev informed the guest on the work done in Azerbaijan in the sphere of fighting organized crime, legal reforms implemented in the country, as well as the history and hard consequences of the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan.
The Head of the Azerbaijan delegation has also had a meeting with Austrian Prosecutor General Walter Presslauer and his deputy Herbert Rouning, during which they exchanged views on the current situation of Austria-Azerbaijan relations, legal reforms implemented in Azerbaijan, prospects of strengthening bilateral links and also touched upon the roots and consequences of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
The meetings were attended by representatives of the Azerbaijan Embassy to Austria.
