UNESCO, AZERBAIJAN GOVERNMENT AND HEYDAR ALIYEV FOUNDATION SIGN AGREEMENT ON PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
UNESCO, the government of Azerbaijan and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation signed June 18 the agreement on development of the professional education in the republic.
Welcoming the ceremony participants, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP Mehriban Aliyeva underlined that Heydar Aliyev Foundation attaches particular significance to development of the education and implements numerous projects in this area. Azerbaijan`s first lady recalled the conference "UNESCO-Azerbaijan: bridge to the future", held August 24, 2005 in Baku, with participation of UNESCO Director General Koïchiro Matsuura. During the conference, the reforms in Azerbaijan`s education system, integration to the European system of education have been discussed and joint memorandum signed. Mrs. Aliyeva emphasized that in summer 2008, Azerbaijan will host the international conference "Education for all", organized by UNESCO. The International Mugham Center will be also opened within the framework of the conference.
Minister of Education Misir Mardanov underlined that about 200 schools were built, 29 children`s homes and boarding schools repaired and equipped with the modern technology at the initiative of President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation within the past two years. Mr. Mardanov noted that the current project on professional education funded by UNESCO, the governments of Azerbaijan and Japan and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation worth US $ 488 thousand.
Director General of UNESCO Moscow office Dendev Badarch emphasized that the influential international structures highly value the large-scale public work and charitable activities of the President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, Minister of Education Misir Mardanov and Director General of UNESCO Moscow office Dendev Badarch signed the agreement on implementation of the "Funds-in-trust" project.
Ambassador of Japan to Azerbaijan Tadahiro Abe was presented at the ceremony.
