UNICEF REGIONAL DIRECTOR MEETS IDPs
On March 14, Maria Calivis, UNICEF Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, met the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) temporarily settled in a hostel number 4 in Darnagul settlement of Baku.
Sahib Rahimov, deputy chairman of the State Committee for refugees and IDPs, informed UNICEF representative about the measures carried out by the government for the solution of problems of refugees and IDPs.
The hostel houses 420 persons - 100 families from Fizuli, Zangilan, Aghdam and Jabrayil regions of Azerbaijan that were occupied by the Armenian armed forces.
Maria Calivis visited some apartments. During the conversation, IDPs emphasized that they support Azerbaijan President’s policy on settlement of the conflict, and dream of returning to their homes.
Sharing the impressions with representatives of the mass media, regional director said: “It is rather depressing situation. The most horrible thing is that children living here daily face this situation. All families and their children have a right to live in normal conditions. The UNICEF supports peace and condemns all conflicts and wars that bring sufferings to children. Together with other UN agencies we try to help refugees, IDPs and their children.”
