UNICEF SATISFIED WITH WOMEN AND CHILDREN PROJECTS BEING REALIZED IN AZERBAIJAN
Maria Calivis, UNICEF Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, visiting the country, met with vice-speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament Bahar Muradova, 12 March.
Bahar Muradova updated on the reforms conducted in the field of protection of women and children rights, the new laws adopted, the international conventions the Republic has joined.
We attentively study the international experience to improve national legislature in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms, Ms. Muradaova noted. And we closely cooperate with the UN and its structures, as well as UNICEF, she stressed.
Speaking of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict as a result of which hundreds of thousands people have become refugees, the vice-speaker highly estimated the assistance UNICEF renders to the refugee children, the women, expressing hope for further continuation of such aid.
Ms. Maria Calivis expressed satisfaction with stay in Azerbaijan and the dynamic development in the country. She evaluated the government’s programs connected to women and children, the laws adopted in this field. Such development and reforms have to be a sample for other countries, Maria Calivis said.
The parties also touched upon the projects the UN relevant structures is realizing in the country, the conventions Azerbaijan has joined and had detailed exchange of views on a number of other questions.
In meeting, also present were the head of the human rights standing committee Rabiyyet Aslanova, the head of the social policy standing committee Hadi Rajabli, the head of the international relations and inter-parliamentary links standing committee Samad Seyidov and head of the UNICEF’s Azerbaijan representation Ms. Hanaa Singer.
